BBQ for vips

Help Everyone--my husband has invited 3 of his co-workers plus wives to our house for a bbq. I can put a bbq-have done many in the past-but this one has to be over the top! So I am asking for suggestions on what to serve, how to set the table, what kind of cocktails to serve, what to wear!!! Simply Everything. I promise to post pictures and document the entire adventure.

Looking forward to any ideas you may have

Recipe

Jessica Gorman´s Olive Oil and Bacon Truffles

1/2 pound bacon

3 1/2 cups whole wheat flour

1 cup cornmeal

1/4 cup beef broth

3/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 350° F and line a baking sheet with foil.

2. In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crisp, about 10 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the bacon to paper towels to drain, resrving the grease. Let the bacon cool slightly, then crumble.

3. In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal and crumbled bacon. In a large measuring cup, stir together 1 1/3 cups warm water and the broth and pour into the dry ingredients. Add the olive oil and stir together to form a loose dough. Knead on a work surface until smooth.

4. Divide the dough into balls of the appropriate size for your dog (about 1 inch for large dogs and 1/2 inch for small dogs) and set on the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle with the reserved bacon grease. Bake until firm to the touch, 35 to 45 minutes. Let cool completely.

Happy Birthday!

Pink is a girls best color! I recently made this cake for a little girl who was turning 2! Her favorite color of course is pink. One day, while downtown with mom she even saw a Pink Bus---"a girls bus!"

Happy Pink Saturday everyone. Happy to be back with you

THE TERRACE

This is what the patio/terrace looked like back in the summer of 2003! This picture was taken the first time we went through the house with the real estate agent.

TEAR DOWN THAT WALL!!! In the spring/summer of 2005 we tore down part of the wall to open it up to our backyard.

Summer 2006-we enjoy some great weather outside!

Then the following year in 2007 we add the wooden deck!

Finally in the spring of 2010 we are both financially and mentally prepared to continue. Before the pergola can be put up though, the roofing company has to come and do much needed repair work. So, we get rid of the tiles so that they can seal the deck/aka roof of the garage

Just took this picture...July 09, 2010 1:30pm. There are still some things I would like to do, but that will have to wait. For now-we are going to enjoy our beautiful patio!

a metamphoris over the years

My son has been attending the John F. Kennedy Schule in Berlin since 3rd grade! This fall he will going into 9th grade-oh where does the time go? Since 3rd grade we have tried to take a picture on the first and last day of school-always at the same spot. Thankfully my 14 year old still puts up with this idea!!

So, maybe not your typical metamorphosis Monday-but one I enjoy anyway. Thanks to Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for hosting this wonderful Met Monday!
